'Pratibha Puraskaram' Presented to Jagathy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The ‘Pratibha Puraskaram’ instituted by the Thoppil Bhasi Nataka Padana Kendram was presented to actor Jagathy Sreekumar.

Veteran actor Madhu presented the award to the actor, who is bound to a wheelchair after an accident in 2012, at his residence on Wednesday.

Addressing a public function organised by the Thoppil Bhasi Nataka Padana Kendram on Thursday, Madhu said that it was fitting that Jagathy was selected for the award, considering the passion that he had for the stage since his younger days.

The citation and cash prize that accompanied the award was received by Jagathy’s son’s Rajkumar. Madhu also recalled the long list of artistes from the film industry who had died recently. ‘’Like the green mangoes that fall along with the ripe ones when the wind blows,’’ Madhu said.

In its citation, the kendram hoped that Jagathy, who had claimed a place in the hearts of filmgoers by giving shape and expression to diverse characters, would recover from his ailments and return to cinema. Kendram vice-chairman S R K Pillai presided over the function.

The function wound up with a stage adaptation of O N V Kurup’s poem ‘Amma.’

The play was written by G Gopalakrishnan, directed by Raja Warrier and presented by the Thoppil Bhasi Nataka Padana Kendram.
