THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 65 schools in the city, including government and aided schools, were introduced to a Smart Class mechanism that will help them to identify, discuss and solve key issues which they face while imparting high-quality education to prepare children for a new set of skills.

In its first conclave on Computational Thinking for Students organised by Smartclass Educational Services Private Ltd, teachers and principals from various city schools got a first-hand experience on smart class. Principals, teachers and school management were introduced to Computational Thinking and Innovation Lab (CTI), n-CAT and Health Set Go as part of the conclave.

On the smart learning schools, Smartclass Educational Services Private Ltd Kerala Business head Ram Narayan said the aim of the Smart Learning Schools is to update schools and students with the latest creative modules and technologies for the future. The smart class CTI lab is a concept driven approach that strengthens a student’s analytical skills, problem-solving abilities and enables creative thinking that helps them pursue excellence in different fields, he said.

CTI Lab facilitates computational thinking and helps children to thrive in a technology-driven world which is moving at a fast pace. Instead of only being passive technology users, they can become active inventors and innovators. The CTI lab curriculum is based on Computational Thinking skills mapped to NCERT framework for Computer Literacy. This framework also includes Learner-centric activities for one Lab period as micro-learning nuggets that include 4-5 lab sessions per grade like Computer Science (Grade1-8), Robotics (Level 1-4) and Creating stories using creator (grade 2-4).

On n-CAT, Narayan said it is a customised diagnostic test for students. He said a detailed analysis of topic wise conceptual understanding by students in the class, tests the skill level (both knowledge and test taking) required for high score and also helps in modifying teaching approach for each student to help overcome scoring gaps. The Health Set Go is another major initiative that will help in assessing the health of every child.
