Kerala's Sports Minister promises to improve hostel facilities

Sport Minister A C Moideen assured to improve the facilities and bring changes in the functioning of the sports hostels.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sports Minister A C Moideen on Tuesday assured to improve the facilities and bring changes in the functioning of the sports hostels run by Kerala State Sports Council. He was speaking after meeting district sports officers, trainees of sports hostels and coaches.

There are 24 centralised sports hostels in the state run by the Sports Council. The functioning of these institutions came under scanner after a trainee committed suicide at the Sports Authority of India’s Alappuzha training centre in May 2015.

The minister said the government was aware of the limitations of state’s sports training centres. “The recommendations made by a commission that studied the facilities will be discussed and implemented,” Moideen said. He said counsellors will be roped in to improve the confidence level of the sports trainees.
