THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Aiming to cater to the drinking water needs of those arriving at the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, an atmospheric-water generation unit will be unveiled on Thursday. The unit which uses optimized dehumidification technique to extract and condense moisture in the air to produce high purity water will be handover to the Corporation by Kollam based  Green Gate Enterprises.

The unit will be inaugurated by Water Resources Minister Mathew T Thomas on Thursday at 3 pm. According to Sethu Sunderlal, managing director of Green Gate Enterprises, the unit works in such a way that at first clean air is passed through the heat exchanger system where it gets dehumidified. Then, the water is removed from the air and is collected in a tank inside the unit. After that, the water that is stored will be passed through an extensive water filtration system where it will be purified from possible chemical and microbiological contaminations. It is said that the filter which has a seven-stage filtration system will make no compromise in water quality.

“The technology is such that it doesn’t exploit any water resource. All that it needs is electricity or an alternate source of power to condense, collect, filter and dispense crystal clear drinking water. As it is cost effective and requires minimum maintenance, the product is tailor made for people of all classes,” said Sethu. While the machine is manufactured by Mumbai based WaterMaker (India) Private Limited, the sole distributor of the said product in the state is Green Gate Enterprises. The inaugural session will have the presence of Mayor VK Prasanth, various standing committee heads, councillors and others.
