Death of twins born to an Adivasi woman at Kadamankode in Kulathupuzha this week has triggered protest from various parties.

TIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Death of twins born to an Adivasi woman at Kadamankode in Kulathupuzha this week has triggered protest from various parties. Kodikunnil Suresh, who is the MP of Kottarakara, said the issue was a serious one and he demanded action against erring officials. According to him, the infants died because the woman was not given adequate medical care when she was pregnant.

The woman who delivered the babies at her home at Kuzhaviyodu tribal settlement lost them after their health deteriorated post delivery. The MP demanded adequate compensation for the family. “Such incidents are repeating throughout the state. Though the state has enough resources and officers, the benefits are not reaching Adivasis. It is a prime example of the lackadaisical attitude of the government,” he said. According to him, the ST Welfare Department had become leaderless. The MP accused the officials of diverting the funds meant for welfare of Adivasis.
