Lots of laughter! Narma Kairali plays turn 25

The Narma Kairali plays, which succeeded in coaxing laughter out of the otherwise phlegmetic Malayali, are turning 25 years old.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The Narma Kairali plays, which succeeded in coaxing laughter out of the otherwise phlegmetic Malayali, are turning 25 years old.Narma Kairali is celebrating the occasion with a play, whose main theme, of course, is humour. Thomas Mathew has scripted and directed ‘Guhaamughathu Ninnu Cameramanodoppam’ which will be staged at the Vivekananda Cultural Centre at Palayam at 6 pm on Tuesday. Though Narma Kairali itself was formed more than three decades back, its popular dramas were launched in 1993.

Swami Sandeepananda Giri will be chief guest at the function. He will release the book ‘Fileukal Falthingalalla’ authored by V Suresan. Noted cartoonist Sukumar will receive the first copy. ‘Guhaamughathu Ninnu Cameramanodoppam’ is the silver jubilee gift of Narma Kairali.Narma Kairali, which describes itself as the ‘’the rarest species of its kind in India,’’ is an organisation of humorists in the state.

Established in 1987, it has presented more than 700 Chiriyararangu in India and abroad. Cartoonist Sukumar was its president for many years. Led by Thomas Mathew and Vazhuthacaud Babu, the humour programme on Narma Kairali had debuted on July 16, 1993. Over the last 25 years, Narma Kairali has organised more than 250 such programmes.
