TIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Fisheries Minister J Mercykutty Amma on Thursday inaugurated the two-storeyed building built under the corporate social responsibility scheme of the Adani Ports at Harbour Area LPS in Thiruvananthapuram. Speaking after inaugurating the building, the minister said the state government would take steps to hand over 50 cents of land owned by the Harbour Department adjacent to the school to the school authorities to use the land as playground for the students.
The Education Department has also taken steps to upgrade the school by starting class V. All the programmes being implemented by the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) would be made available in the school in connection with the upgradation, the minister said. In return, the minister urged the support of the local community for speeding up the port development works in the area. Minister for Ports and Museum Kadannappally Ramachandran, who presided over the meeting, lauded the CSR initiative of the Adani Ports.
HOWE Engineering Company which supervised the school building project, Omar Construction Company, the headmaster of the school who headed the school during the time of construction were also honoured. Corporation Mayor V K Prasantho inaugurated the renovated computer lab of the school. Scholarships instituted for the meritorious students were also distributed by M Vincent MLA.
