Short film and photography award distribution

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The awards for best short films and adventure photography in the competition organised by State Youth Welfare Board will be distributed to the winners at Government Women’s College here at 11.30 am on Tuesday.

Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan will give away the awards while Sports and Youth Welfare Minister AC Moideen will preside over the function. In a statement, the office -bearers of the Youth Welfare Board said the awards were aimed to promote young creative artists.

The short films, the duration of which should not exceed three minutes, have been chosen from 45 entries  in three categories such as woman empowerment, social work and conservation of the environment. A
special jury comprising of veteran filmmaker Lenin Rajendran, actor Ranjini and film editor V Ajith Kumar, selected the winners. A concert by Thaikoodam Bridge will also be held after the function.
The winners will get a cash award of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 for first, second and third positions respectively.

In adventure photography category, winners have been selected from 38 applicants by the jury comprising of M Balan (wild-life photographer), Piyari Kombro (nature photographer) and S Rajendran ( media photographer). The winners will get a cash award of Rs 10,001, Rs 7001 and Rs 5001 for first, second and third positions respectively.

In the woman empowerment category,  Kadhayiloru Chodyam by Rasheed Parambil won the first prize while Thankamma by B Ramabhadran came second. In the social work category, Drops by AP Krishnakumar came first while FB by Vishnu Prabhath came second. In the environment category,  mittayi by Mohammed Shuhaib came first while Onaam Padam by Binu Francis came second.
