KIIFB fund allotment to come as breather to MCH

According to the minister, the master-plan aims to make the hospital a centre of excellence and it will focus on easing congestion and improving the basic infrastructural facilities.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital reeling under space constraints and poor condition of roads will soon get a respite after KIIFB releases the first instalment of Rs 58.37 crore of the Rs 717 crore master-plan. The sanctioned amount will be used for the development of roads, multi-level parking facility and others.

“For the development of roads, an amount of Rs 18.6 crore has been allotted. The other allocations include Rs 12.31 crore for the construction of a flyover, Rs 25.24 crore for multi-level parking and Rs 2.18 crore for electrical works,” said K K Shailaja, Health Minister.

According to the minister, the master-plan aims to make the hospital a centre of excellence and it will focus on easing congestion and improving the basic infrastructural facilities.

“A major problem the campus faces is traffic congestion. Narrow roads, illegal parking and others only help to escalate the hardships of patients, doctors and students. But the master plan will have a solution for the said issues,” said Shailaja.

As per the plan, roads will be developed from Medical College entrance to CDC touching Sree Chithra, SAT, Mother and Child statue and the main road via mortuary and SBI and from OP Road to the new building of Sree Chithra. “The idea is to develop two-lane roads into three-lane and to introduce one-way traffic,” said an officer.
