Trade Union to go on strike against anti-employee stand by KSRTC management

All the trade unions decided to observe July 10 as the ‘Rights protection day’. A meeting to discuss the strike and fix the date will be held in front of the Transport Bhavan on July 24.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The joint trade union committee of the KSRTC has decided to launch a strike in protest against what it termed the anti-employee stand adopted by the KSRTC management. The committee said in a statement on Wednesday the date will be fixed at a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on July 24.

KST Workers’ Union president Thampanoor Ravi presided over the meeting. Wednesday’s meeting was attended by KSRT Employees’ Association (CITU) president Vaikom Viswan, KST Employees’ Union (AITUC) president K P Rajendran and KST Drivers’ Union president V S Sivakumar MLA.

All the trade unions decided to observe July 10 as the ‘Rights protection day’. A meeting to discuss the strike and fix the date will be held in front of the Transport Bhavan on July 24.  “The management is taking up all these initiative to get publicity from the public. Such initiatives will lead to more losses for the corporation.

The management is focusing on firing employees and neglecting the legal rights of the employees. They are not even trying to find a solution in this matter by considering the Sushil Khanna report,” said Ravi.
The new management has ignored the decisions taken by the old management and also the High Court’s decision to change the duty patterns of driver, conductor and mechanical staff.  Promotions are also pending, he alleged.
