VIJAYAWADA: The city police has advised those planning to install Ganesh idols (pandals) in public places in the city to obtain prior permission. City police commissioner Gautam Sawang warned on Monday that police will take strict action if any person or organisation is found to be violating this norm.
In a press release issued here, Sawang said that extorting money for donations will also be considered a severe offence. He added that the organisers of Ganesh pandals must obtain permission from Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), fire services and APSPDCL before approaching the cops.

The commissioner also said that the organizers should get permission in writing from the assistant commissioner of police of the division concerned. Application forms for idol installation and processions are available at all police stations in the city. The applications with full details of installation and immersion route of the idol should be submitted before August 20 for approval. He also pointed out that installations will be permitted only at places where the free flow of traffic is not obstructed and where there is no threat to peace and order.

Section 144 to be imposed at Gannavaram Airport

With the implementation of section 144 (2) Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) people would not be allowed to gather or congregate within a radius of 250 meters near Gannavaram Airport.
