VIJAYAWADA: Members of the Shree Sambhavnath Jain Swetamber Murtipujak Sangh celebrated the eight-day Paryushan Parv, an important festival of the community by self-purification, fasting and performing pujas at the Marwari Temple at One-town here on Sunday.

To mark the celebrations, hundreds of Jains also took out a procession from Marwari temple, which passed through Main Road, Samrang Chowk, Hindu High School, BRP Road, Bhavanarayana Street, Sivalayam Street and culminated at the starting point.

Delivering his discourse, Param Pujya Sadhvi Shri Yashaprabhasriji said that ‘Paryushan’ is an eight-day fasting period described as a purification process. Jainism followers will hope to seek forgiveness for their sins, try to forgive those who have misunderstood them and at the same time the followers aimed for spiritual goals.

The Sadhvi also preached the doctrines (Agam) of Lord Mahaveera and sang a few Jain rhymes. “Pratikraman” was done in the evening and after that everyone asked for forgiveness and had forgiven others by saying “Michhami Dukkadam”.  Jains also participated in traditional rituals at Marwari temple on the occasion, thanking the god for giving them strength.
