VIJAYAWADA: Scores of devotees who were conferred ‘Bhavani Deeksha’ gathered at Sivaramakrishna Kshetram in Satyanarayanapuram here and participated in the  ‘Kalasa Jyothi Yatra’ on Sunday evening.

The procession is an annual ritual organised by Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam (SDMS) during ‘Bhavani Deeksha’ season.  Placing the processional deities of Lord Malleswara Swami and goddess Kanaka Durga on a well-decorated silver chariot, the Bhavanis performed ‘harathis’. After the temple head priest performed rituals, devotees pulled the silver chariot chanting ‘Jai Bhavani. Jai Jai Bhavani.’

The procession moved through Satyanarayanapuram, Urvasi centre, Gandhinagar, Police Control Room, Low bridge and Canal road, before moving towards the hillock. Several voluntary organisations supplied drinking water to the Bhavani devotees.
