VIJAYAWADA: Unable to bear the pain and discomfort by miscreants, a 14-year-old girl Karri Soumya, committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her house at Sanathnagar of Penamaluru mandal, near Vijayawada on Wednesday night.

Soumya was pursuing standard IX at Government High School in Patamata, Vijayawada. She was allegedly being stalked by a youth along with his friends in Sanathnagar everyday. At first, the family tried to cover up the incident by stating that she resorted to some extreme step, due to severe stomach pain.

However, on Thursday morning, the family members said it was due to stalking by a 16-year old youth. Soumya’s younger sister told mediapersons that the accused used to stalk her sister and pass comments, much to their discomfort. She said that sometimes, the accused used to beat the victim.

However, Soumya’s parents — K Govinda Rao and K Parvathi — were not aware of it. Her mother said, “The miscreants troubled her to a great degree and they have to be punished in the same way.” Parents alleged that there were injuries on the body. Police denied that after examining the body.

A suspicious death case has been registered in Penamaluru police station and the corpse was shifted to the government hospital for postmortem. “We are investigating the case from different angles,” Penamaluru inspector K Damodhar Rao said and added that they have not yet arrested anyone in the case.
