

VIJAYAWADA: Transport, Roads and Buildings Principal Secretary Sumita Dawra directed the officials to check the possibility of using bituminous premix for patchwork with proper compaction so that the same would not get disturbed during the rainy season.
The instances of several roads developing potholes reported in various parts of the state in the recent rains. The government has taken up maintenance drive to fill up potholes on a war footing basis. Sumita Dawra reviewed over the progress of repairing potholes with the officials on Friday and learnt that 97 per cent of pothole repairs in the State have been completed.
Instructing the Superintending Engineers (SEs) and Executive Engineer to clear jungle, section road shoulders, rectify blackspots and keep safety sign boards at blackspots, she also wanted the SEs to review with field staff continuously and to activate Road Maintenance System (RMS) cells at district level to be responsible for overall monitoring of maintenance works.
While reviewing over land acquisition issues pertaining to judicial buildings, ROBs/RUBs in the State, she asked the staff to resolve the issues by taking them to the notice of the District Collectors. Wherever there are long pending issues in designs or drawings, these should be quickly finalised in consultation with the Railways, she said.
Dawra also instructed the officials to participate in ‘Vanam Manam’ (Plantation drive).
The Roads and Building department has already identified 1,739 km to be taken up for plantation through Social Forestry department under NREGS. Already in Srikakulam plantation on 50 km has been completed.
