VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials to inaugurate six sports academies on August 15.

In addition to the six indoor and outdoor academies coming up at Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Gudivada, Narasaraopeta, Nellore and Anantapur, four more water sports schools coming up at Vijayawada, Nagayalanka, Jangareddygudem and Thadipudi will also be inaugurated on August 15. Each academy will have 80 expert sportspersons for training students. The government will spend `20 crore for maintenance of the six sports academies.

While reviewing the progress of sports and skill development corporation with the officials of Sports Authority of AP (SAAP) and AP State Skill Development Corporation at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Friday, the Chief Minister insisted that every village must be connected to a play field.

SAAP officials also presented the progress on Academies under Professional Management, for which SAAP issued a national tender.

The officials proposed that all 13 universities can compete for an award, which will be called as the CM’s cup.

The CM also instructed the officials to start maintaining a sports calendar and include all games and athletic activities.

Finish housing projects on time: Chief secratary
Vijayawada: Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar has directed the officials concerned to initiate measures for completing the houses sanctioned in rural areas on time.  There is no paucity of funds for the housing scheme and the needed building material is available, hence the houses should be completed at the earliest. Addressing a review meeting on housing in rural areas of the State under NTR Housing scheme on Friday, Dinesh Kumar asked the officials concerned to encourage the beneficiaries to complete the houses sanctioned to them
in an expedited manner.
