VIJAYAWADA: An alleged illicit affair between his mother and an acquaintance led to the death of a 22-year-old man outside a fruit market in Kedareswarapeta, here in broad daylight on Monday. The mother also suffered severe injuries and was admitted to the government hospital in critical condition.
On Monday afternoon, the victim Narendra, came out of the fruit market, where both he and the accused Sivaiah work, along with his mother Padmavati. They were heading home on a two-wheeler, when Sivaiah attacked them with a machete. After murdering her son, he went on to attack her but was stopped when Padmavati raised an alarm and people rushed to her rescue.
Police reached the spot and took Sivaiah into custody along with the weapon.
Police sources said that Padmavati had lost her husband several years ago and reportedly developed an intimacy with Sivaiah. Recently, Narendra warned Sivaiah against coming to his house. This triggered a grudge which fuelled Sivaiah’s attack on Monday.
