VIJAYAWADA: The Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) will start the implementation of the ‘Amaravati Greening Development’ (AGD) project on November 18. Estimating to spend `1,484 crore on the project, the State government is planning to approach World Bank for 70% financial assistance for the project, which will be completed within three years.

The project is aimed at transforming the landscape of Amaravati region into a great green urban living body. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who was in Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, conducted a teleconference with officials.

The Chief Minister said that greening development project should transform Amaravati into Nandanavanam. “Plan the green network with an interconnection of water bodies. The city will be a blend of green and blue networks. The green projects will make the city pollution-free by nullifying carbon emissions. The green development project should be planned keeping in view of the increasing significance of tourist spots in the region,’’ Naidu said.

Stating that he came to know that a square foot of space in the capital region got an offer price of `5,500 from NRIs, he said that the high price is due to expectations of standards of life in capital and the credibility on the TDP government. “The city needs to meet the expectations and should be the best city in the world with exceptional happiness index. The green environment is one of the factors that affects the standards and quality of living. The public spaces should be planned in the form of eco-system instead of mere concrete structures,’’ the Chief Minister said.

Asserting that he is putting all efforts to make Amaravati a beautiful and the world’s best capital city, he said fruits of Amaravati need to reach all. “The green development needs to filter pollutants and dust and to provide shade and lower temperature in Amaravati. When I visited the US recently, it was known that forests cover is one third of land mass in that country. In a similar manner, the greenery and vegetation in Amaravati need to cover one third of the city.

Trees even help in reduction of noise pollution. Urban green spaces a compulsion for a sustainable city,’’ he said, and suggested that green development master plan should be an all round consideration of environment and tourism as well as investments.

While, 24,000 will be big trees and others will be flowering plants or trees.
