1,745 kg adulterated ghee seized

Sleuths of Vigilance and Enforcement and Food Safety officials raided an oil company at Kothapet area in the city on Monday and seized 1,745 kg of adulterated ghee from the godown.

VIJAYAWADA: Sleuths of Vigilance and Enforcement and Food Safety officials raided an oil company at Kothapet area in the city on Monday and seized 1,745 kg of adulterated ghee from the godown.
According to Vigilance SP Ravindranath Babu and Assistant Food Controller N Purnachandra Rao, they received a tip-off that the trader has been packaging adulterated ghee in small sachets and had set up a manufacturing unit in the house. They further observed that the adulterated ghee packed in small sachets are being sold with the help of two other persons.

Adressing the media, Purnachandra Rao said the accused Amara Satyanarayana (42) has been running the oil company for the past two years from his house and has been indulging in adulterated ghee business for the past few months. He has been mixing palmoline oil with  food colours and sold it as ghee under the brand name Amara Ghee. “Those who consume adulterated ghee are vulnerable to intestine-related ailments,” said Rao. He said they conducted lab tests prior to the raids and even the results said that the product was adulterated.
