VIJAYAWADA: Human Library sessions, conducted at Tagore library in Vijayawada, is going down well among readers and visitors alike. Over 50 students took part in the second human library session held on Sunday, where IAS Gandham Chandrudu IAS was the human book.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative undertaken by any State government in the country, Vijayawada had its first human library at Tagore memorial library in September. Since the inauguration, hundreds of students and youngsters are coming forward and getting themselves registered to interact with the human book.
As part of the human library mission, Gandham Chandrudu, Director of Tribal Welfare department visited the library as a human book and interacted with the youth.

The Director of Tribal Welfare said, “Being a human book is the greatest achievement and it gives me immense happiness to interact with aspiring young minds. Through this interaction, one can share life experiences, knowledge, etc. These kinds of libraries and human books are more intriguing and impart better knowledge than any other medium. Youngsters should often interact with people rather than taking the help of Google and searching the internet. Technology is good but one must use it wisely.”
In a human library, people are the living books who share knowledge in person. Human library is a library of people, it replaces books with human beings.
The concept may be relatively new here but the first human library started in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2000.

Human library made inroads into India with IIM campus, Indore coming up with the concept followed by Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi this year. In a human library, a catalogue of human books is displayed along with the schedule of their availability. Based on the availability, the reader can choose a person (human book) depending on the subject he wants to interact.
For a stipulated amount of time, that human book would be given to the reader for interaction in the library premises.
