VIJAYAWADA: District Civil Supplies officials conducted surprise raids at Jaggayapet on Friday and found three traders selling cooking oil errantly without obtaining necessary permissions from the department. Cases were booked against three traders under the Public Health Act and the shops were seized. 

Acting on a tip-off, assistant supply officer P Komali Padma and her team checked licences of all the shops in the town and enquired about the sales and stock purchases. During their inspection, they found three oil traders selling cooking oil without approval from Civil Supplies department. They seized as much as 200 quintals of cooking oil worth `20 lakh and served notices on the traders. “Selling any product without department’s approval is an offence. All the three traders did not have approvals,” said Padma.
