Lack of development of ‘wealthy’ districts irks CM Chandrababu Naidu

CM Chandrababu Naidu has expressed dissatisfaction over some of the districts for still lagging behind in terms of development despite the availability of natural resources.

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has expressed dissatisfaction over some of the districts like Srikakulam, Kadapa and Anantapur still lagging behind in terms of development despite availability of natural resources.Though the allover growth rate of the State is impressive, it is unfortunate that some of the districts, despite getting government focus, are failing to come on to the track of development, he said and observed that lack of leadership and inefficient administration are leading to such a scenario. Addressing the 13th Collectors Conference, which commenced here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister directed the district collectors to achieve 15 per cent growth rate and 80 per cent satisfaction level among people on the performance of state government. 

In the ratings given to the districts based on economical, social, general and composite indexes, Krishna district stood first with given A++ rating.While, West Godavari, Guntur and Vizianagaram also achieved A++ ratings, Chittoor, Kurnool, East Godavari, Prakasam and Nellore districts stood in the next phase by achieving A+ rating. But, Kadapa, Vizag, Srikakulam and Ananthapuram stood were given A rating.
When it come to per capita income, Krishna district ranked top with `1,61,097 and Srikakulam at the bottom with `94,118. Stating that the State achieved 11.725 growth rate against the national rate of 5.6 per cent in the first quarter of the 2017-18 fiscal, the CM wanted the officials to strive to achieve 80 per cent satisfaction level among people, which recorded 58 per cent at present.

Stating that the State government has achieved stability in agricultural sector  by registering a growth of 27.60% in the first quarter of 2017-18, the Chief Minister said technology should be used in a big way in the agricultural sector to achieve more growth rate. He said Bill Gates is coming to the state in December to attend a global seminar on using technology in agriculture.The Chief Minister said that AP is number one in aquaculture. Horticulture should be developed in a big way to increase the income of farmers. He said that the State government is planning to develop horticulture in one crore acres against the present 40 lakh acres.

The Chief Minister stressed the need for preparing panchayat-level growth rate index to know the ground realities in villages and take decisions for welfare and development programmes to increase the satisfaction level among people.Naidu said that smart water grids should be developed linking the water sources. The CM said that there was low growth rate in industrial sector. He said that growth rate in industrial sector stands at 22 per cent and manufacturing sector  at 8.95 per cent. The CM said biometric system should be made compulsory in all departments and e-offices should be developed. He said there is a need to restructure outdated departments and if necessary new departments should be created for effective implementation welfare programmes.
