VIJAYAWADA: A woman advocate was reportedly attacked by two persons in her residence when she was alone on Tuesday night. According to Two-town circle inspector K Durga Rao, the injured Bayana Venkata Ramani, a lawyer by profession, is a member of Bezawada Bar Association (BBA). A few years ago, Ramani was approached by Banka Ganesh and Banka Shiva, her alleged attackers, in a land dispute case. Both Ramani and Ganesh are said to be relatives while Shiva is an alleged rowdy-sheeter.

When she lost the land dispute case, Ganesh developed a grudge against Ramani and her family members and demanded money for the loss incurred. She, however, expressed her inability to pay up the sum and settled the matter between local political leaders. On Tuesday night around 10 pm, Ganesh and Shiva entered into Ramani’s house and punched her face. When Ramani screamed for help, the two fled from the spot. The lawyer received injuries on the nose and face and was later rushed to a private hospital. Following a complaint, a case was registered against the duo in Two-town police station.

Condemning the attack on a woman advocate, Bezawada Bar Association representatives met city police commissioner Gautam Sawang and requested him to take action against the attackers.
On the other hand, members of the Bar Associations in Krishna district and Vijayawada boycotted their duties on Wednesday and conducted bike rallies. Bezawada Bar Association (BBA) president Somu Krishna Murthy said all women advocates in nine districts will observe a one-day hunger strike on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Durga Bhavani, wife of Banka Ganesh, and his relatives too approached Sawang and alleged that Ramani had filed fake cases against them in the past. “The High Court dismissed those cases finding fault . There is not an iota of truth in Ramani’s allegations that my husband attacked her. She created a scene and sought the help of fellow advocates to defame us,” alleged Durga Bhavani.
