Two government officials caught accepting bribe

In two separate incidents, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two government officials in Krishna district on Monday on bribery charges.

VIJAYAWADA: In two separate incidents, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two government officials in Krishna district on Monday on bribery charges.In one of the incidents, Kalla Seetha Ramanjaneya Appa Rao (52), an assistant engineer with AP State Housing Corporation Limited , was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 as bribe from Mathangai Venkateswarlu, who was also the complainant.

Venkateswarlu, a resident of Polampalli village of Krishna district, had sought Appa Rao’s help in releasing a pending bill of `1.12 lakh. The bill was on Venkateswarlu mother’s name, Lakshmi.
In the second incident, Gurajala Kotaiah (50), panchayat secretary of Polampalli village of Vatsavai mandal in Krishna, was caught accepting `15,000 from complainant Pamu Srinivasa Rao. The complainant wanted help with forwarding applications of his wife Pamu Usha Rani and two others to AP State Housing Corporation for sanctions under a government scheme.  

Vexed with the officials’ demands for money, they approached the ACB and lodged their complaints.
In both cases, phenolphthalein test showed positive results. Cases against Appa Rao and Kotaiah under Prevention of Corruption Act were registered.
