‘Construction City’ will come up at Donakonda: CM Chandrababu Naidu

The facility to house manufacturing units apart from a research centre to experiment with latest technological advancements.

VIJAYAWADA:  Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said that a ‘Construction City’, where every component required for infrastructure development will be available, is going to be established at Donakonda in Prakasam district. He said Singapore will extend its support -- technological and otherwise -- in the establishment of the proposed city.At the weekly AP Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) meeting on Wednesday, the CM said, “There is a similar city in China where all innovations, equipment and material required for construction is available. The city would also house manufacturing units, besides research centre to experiment with latest technological advancements.” 

On the occasion, Executive Vice-Chairman of  Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDCO), V Ramnath, informed CM Naidu that while manufacturing units would be set up in Donakonda, trade centres would come up in Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool and Krishnapatnam where the products can be processed and traded. “The proposal is to have manufacturing units related to construction at Donakonda in about 25,000 acres. 

The trade centres will not have any manufacturing units and would house warehouses, processing and assembling units, spaces for expos and other facilities,” Ramnath explained.  While 250 acres of land has been identified at Nidamarru village of Amaravati for establishing the trade centre, Ramnath informed the CM that development will begin in about 62 acres in the first phase. “In the initial phase, the layout will consist of corporate offices, three-tier displays of construction materials, warehouses, a green belt, a food plaza, parking spaces and an exhibition area for the display of larger equipment such as cranes.The response has been good as more than 610 companies have evinced interest to be a part of the project,” he observed.

To this, the CM instructed the officials to seek necessary assistance from the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore with which the State entered into an MoU. In the meeting, the CM also approved of the proposal to establish a Lord Venkateswara temple in the capital region. The officials informed that a land has been identified near Pavitra Sangamam and that Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams would build the temple. The Chief Minister also approved the proposal to develop commercial housing of 1,000 residential units, in the light of the growing demand from various sections of society. The officials informed that the base price of the housing has been fixed at `3,000 per sft.
