Crack the whip on industries flouting norms: Sidda Raghava Rao to Pollution Control Board

During a meeting with the officials at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Wednesday, the minister said the onus of protecting the people from pollution lies on the PCB.

VIJAYAWADA:   Environment and Forest Minister Sidda Raghava Rao has directed the officials of the Pollution Control Board (PCB) to take stern action against the managements of the industries which are violating norms.“Of course, the newly-formed State is in dire need of industries so as to generate employment as well as economical upliftment. But, at the same time, the industries should follow the PCB guidelines,’’ he said.

During a meeting with the officials at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Wednesday, the minister said the onus of protecting the people from pollution lies on the PCB and wanted them to go tough against those industries which are violating norms. He wanted the officials to make field visits and conduct inspections at the industries instead of offices.

Observing that people are facing troubles with the dust and pollution being caused by stone crushers located adjacent to roads, the minister directed the officials to issue notices to such units first and initiate action if the managements fail to take necessary steps.On the occasion, the minister also instructed the officials to set up PCB regional offices in Srikakulam, Prakasam and Kadapa districts and regional lab in every district.PCB chairman BSS Prasad, member-secretary Vivek Yadav and other officials were present.
