VIJAYAWADA: The learner’s licence (LLR) mela organised by the Road Transport Authority of Krishna district in association with Sreedhar’s College here on Sunday evoked good response from the students and youth.

Out of 3,138 persons attended the learners licence test, 2,570 cleared it.  Speaking on the occasion, deputy transport commissioner (DTC) E Meera Prasad said that most of the road accidents reported in the recent years had involvement of youth without driving licence as they were not aware of the basic road safety rules.

“The department has formulated an action plan to organise driving licence melas across the district to reduce road accident fatalities involving youth and make them adhere to road safety rules,” he said.
The department has organised LLR melas in 44 educational institutions across the district and issued 6,500 new driving licences to  students in an year. The officials have registered as many as 19,617 cases in 2016, 14,066 in 2017 and 3,000 this year so far for driving without licence in the district.
