Mayor, VMC chief inspect Indore’s sanitation plans

VIJAYAWADA: As part of their tour, Sreedhar and Nivas reviewed the progress of various projects being implemented by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), which secured the cleanest city award from the Union ministry of urban and housing affairs for the second consecutive year. They also inspected a transfer station, biomethanation plant, drum composting unit and integrated composting units set up by the civic body to tackle the garbage menace in Indore.

The IMC officials explained the mayor and VMC chief that hi-tech transfer stations were set up at eight locations of the city to dispose of garbage that was segregated through the door-to-door collection. Advanced equipment like compactor and hook loader were also being utilised to move the waste in the city.  

VMC officials had left for Indore to take part in the ‘Swachh Survekshan-2018’ awards ceremony held on Saturday and received the ‘Cleanest City’ award (more than one million population) and Swachh Award for being the fifth cleanest city (more than one lakh population) from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. VMC Additional Commissioner (general) D Chandrasekhar and health officer Babu Srinivasan were also present on the occasion.
