Municipal Minister P Narayana for green cover on national highways

Out of the 240-km length of central dividers in municipalities, green cover has been developed on a stretch of 200 km.

VIJAYAWADA: Greenery will be developed on central medians of national highways passing through municipal towns across the State to secure better ranks in the next edition of Swachh Survekshan-2019 survey by MoUHA, Municipal Minister P Narayana said.

On Saturday, Narayana, accompanied by Vijayawada Mayor Koneru Sreedhar and Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner J Nivas, inspected the greenery developed on the central medians between Gannavaram and Mangalagiri.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that three major cities — Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati — made it to top 10 positions in Swachh Survekshan-2018 survey. The State government has accorded top priority in developing greenery on the central medians to reduce air pollution levels, besides slashing road accident ratio, he said.

At present, the municipal department and Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority officials are exploring possibilities to develop greenery on the central medians between Gannavaram and Pavitra Sangamam, Ibrahimpatnam, he said.
