Man killed over old rivalry, family protests

VIJAYAWADA: Mild tension prevailed in Kalidindi mandal on Thursday morning when the family members of one Birudugadda Sekhar staged a protest on the Bhimavaram - Kaikaluru highway in front of police station, demanding action against Katta Rammohan Rao, who is allegedly accused of killing Sekhar over past rivalries.

The kin of the deceased accused Kalidindi constable Govardhan for helping alleged accused Katta Rammohan Rao in escaping from the crime scene, adding, that the Kaikaluru police inspector failed to take action against Rao despite a complaint being lodged previously.

According to the police, the incident was reported on Wednesday night under Tadinada village limits, when Katta Rammohan Rao attacked Sekhar and killed him by slitting his throat with a sharp object while he was returning home. As per the preliminary investigation, the deceased Sekhar used to work as a supervisor at a government liquor shop in Tadinada village and Rao was a daily wage worker.

“Both Sekhar and Rao often used to quarrel over petty issues. On Wednesday while Sekhar was returning home after closing the liquor store, Rao intercepted him at the village outskirts and killed him. A case has been registered against him under section 302 of IPC and investigation is on,” said the police. MLA Doolam Nageswara Rao also participated in the protest.
