About 500 trees spread across a distance of over six kilometers from Nayandahalli to Devegowda Petrol Bunk on Outer Ring Road here in Bangalore is the result of an initiative undertaken by People’s Education Society Institute of Technology (PESIT), Bangalore. From planning an eco-friendly landscape to maintaining a proper garbage disposal system, the college has taken  measures to make its own contribution towards the environment. Chandrashekhar T, facility manager at PESIT, says, “We have planned the landscape of the college so that plants and trees could be planted. We have proper gardening measures to maintain them as well. This has been done in all five PES campuses in the city.”

The college takes pride in its chief gardener, who plays an important role in showcasing flowers at the annual Lalbagh flower show. Apart from plantation, the college has also taken up rainwater harvesting to save and use rain water. “We have a drainage system that accumulates rainwater near the student hostels. It was set up in 2007 and was used for gardening, but now we are planning to purify that water for other purposes,” he explains. The college also has an inhouse sewage plant that purifies water. Garbage disposal being a critical issue in Bangalore, the college has initiated an effective garbage disposal system in collaboration with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. The students also take part in various community development programmes once a month.
