Dr verghese kurien oration today at XLRI
XLRI, Jamshedpur, is set to organise the first-ever Dr Verghese Kurien Memorial Oration on sustainable development today. In memory of the Milkman of India and founder of AMUL, the debut oration aims to inspire budding business leaders and young professionals to help shape an inclusive and just society whilst inculcating the values and entrepreneurial spirit of the ‘Father of the White Revolution’. The oration is to be delivered by P Sainath, eminent journalist and Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communication Arts. Sainath who calls himself a rural reporter will deliver the oration on the topic “Unequal is Unsustainable”.
Danfoss joins forces with VIT, vellore
In a bid to ignite practical learning among students, Danfoss India, a provider of climate and energy solutions signed a Co-Operation Agreement with Vellore Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu. Under this agreement, an Advanced Drives Laboratory will be set up which will provide electric drives for the academic benefit of undergraduate and postgraduate students at VIT which will spur innovative thinking at the college level. The lab will house electric drives such as induction motor, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) and synchronous reluctance motor drives. It will open doors to PhD research and joint research projects on various applications within electric drives and other funding opportunities. Students and teachers stand to gain from this experience.
Gearing up to compete in shell eco-marathon asia
Teams representing 18 universities and technology institutes across India have cleared Phase I registrations and will complete Phase II registrations today to compete in the sixth year of Shell Eco-marathon Asia (SEM Asia). Shell Eco-marathon challenges high school and university students from around Asia to design, build and test energy efficient vehicles. The winning team will cover the maximum distance using the least amount of energy. The teams will field Prototype and Urban Concept vehicles, powered by gasoline, diesel, electric battery and compressed natural gas (CNG). The grand finale of the competition will be held in Luneta Park located at the heart of Manila in Philippines from February 26 to March 1, 2015. For details, visit www.shell.com/ecomarathon.
