How to Increase Concentration

Concentration is the ability to direct all your effort and attention on one thing. It requires a great deal of time and effort and cannot be achieved miraculousl y in a short time span. The steps listed below are some ways to improve concentration:

BE AWARE OF THE ISSUE: Awareness about the wandering mind is the first step. Make a note every time the brain wanders and you begin to lose concentration. For instance, the cause behind frequent distractions in the morning could be attributed to inadequate sleep or insufficient breakfast. Once, the source is identified, the remedy is quicker.

ASSIGN SOME IDLE TIME: Set aside a specific time of the day to exclusively allow your mind to meander around casually without any reason. Your mind needs the rest to be able to regain control of senses.

ADEQUATE OXYGEN SUPPLY: Blood is the main fuel which controls all activities inside our body, and significantly to the brain. Therefore, adequate supply of blood to the brain is vital for smooth functioning of various organs. For proper oxygenation of the brain, make sure that you get up from your seat often and take walks to boost blood circulation. Regular physical exercises also enable good circulation.

PROVIDE BREAKS: The human brain tends to tire out and lose focus after every thirty minutes of uninterrupted work, thus deviating and losing concentration. Therefore, small breaks every half an hour helps reboot and recharge the grey cells to make them work efficiently. These breaks could be as power naps or leisure walks to relax and rejuvenate the brain in order to reach the optimum concentration level.

AVOID MULTI-TASKING: It is better to take up one task at a time and perform it thoroughly, carrying it to completion. That way, the brain stays concentrated. ADOPT SPIDER TECHNIQUE: A spider in its web remains unaffected by the usual disturbances outside and never bothers to stir or respond. Similarly, when at work, stay focussed and involved without getting affected by normal distractions like slamming of the door, whistling of birds, conversations around, music played, flash of a mobile etc. Stay unperturbed to keep the oil of concentration burning incessantly to achieve your motive.
