Striving to Survive

After his father’s business took a hit when he was studying in class X, Dilip Kumar, who is currently pursuing an MBA at Seshadripuram College, began working to support his family. It is something he continues to do today, despite his busy MBA schedule. Initially having begun work at an HP showroom,Dilip is now a part-timer at TCS.

Speaking about the circumstances that made him take up a job, he says, “Because of the loss in the business, our family faced hard times and it had become difficult to continue my education. So, I joined a private organisation to manage my family. I started earning just enough to finance my education and in doing so, I had begun shouldering responsibility at the age of 16.”

Dilip works after his college hours and he never wastes time. “As my college starts at 7.30 in the morning and ends around 1.30 pm, I have been able to manage my part-time job from 2 pm to 10 pm. After dinner, I complete my assignments. So I end up getting only a few hours of sleep,” he says.

Dilip completed his pre-university and degree from Seshadripuram College, where is now doing his MBA. “Seshadripuram College directed me to the right path. Our institution creates an excellent platform to showcase talents and I utilised the given opportunity rightly,” says Dilip. “It was a great experience being appointed as chief student co-ordinator for the college’s commerce and cultural fest,” he recalls.

Dilip, who draws inspiration  from his mom, says, “My mom taught me work ethics It is her strength and resolve that helped us sustain ourselves through the difficult times we faced”.
