BSAU to collaborate with C-DAC to set up computer labs

BS Abdur Rahman University, Chennai, has signed an MOU with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Chennai, for setting up a lab for the Bharat Operating System Solutions (BOSS) MOOL Operating System. The BOSS GNU/Linux distribution is developed for enhancing the use of free/open source software throughout India. It supports all official Indian languages to enable the non-English literate users in the country. The MoU was signed in the presence of V Murugesan, Registrar, and VM Periasamy, Pro Vice-Chancellor. JAK Tareen, Vice Chancellor, D Janakiram, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Madras and Prof KM Mehata, Dean,  School of Computer, Information and Mathematical Sciences of BSAU, were present at the event.

Kalasalingam University NSS unit organises a road safety campaignThe Industrial Safety Engineering Association of the Kalasalingam University, Krishnankoil, TN, in association with their National Service Scheme (NSS) unit recently celebrated Road Safety Day. S Saravana Sankar, Vice Chanchellor, presided over the function while C Sivapragasam, Dean of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, gave the welcome address. N Rajini, HoD of Mechanical Engineering, N Manikandan, Dean-Admissions and B Perumal, NSS incharge, were present.

Y Prabhuran, TNSTC Madurai Region Training Office, Principal, gave a lecture about road safety rules and regulations, and signs and symbols of traffic signals.

National seminar held at Easwari Engg College

The Department of Chemistry, Easwari Engineering College, Chennai, organised a national seminar on Nanomaterials and Green Chemical Processes (NMGCP 2015) on January 21. The Chief Guest  was S Balasubramaninan, Professor, Department of Inorganic Chemistry, University of Madras. Principal, M Sekar, delivered the presidential address.  C Ravichandran, Head of Chemistry Department and convener, welcomed the gathering. Chief guest  S Balasubramanian delivered the inaugural address. There were four sessions on topics Synthesis and Characterisation of Coatings, Chemistry of Sugar based Molecules and Sensing beyond Human Sensors — a Chemistry role. P Kannan, Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, Anna University, delivered the valedictory address.

Jeppiaar Institute of Technology conducts 12-day  NCC National Integration Camp

The Jeppiaar Institute of Technology, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu, organised an NCC National Integration Camp recently. In this 12-day long camp over 650 selected cadets, including more than 230 women candidates from across 29 states participated. During the camp, the candidates exhibited their skills and their state’s culture with cultural performances. Events such as quiz, solo dance, solo singing, group dance, group singing and volleyball were held. N Marie Wilson, Director of Jeppiaar Institute of Technology, was the chief guest of the valedictory function and gave away the prizes to the best performers.

Niraj Sreedhar thrills students at BIMTECH

Niraj Sreedhar of the Bombay Viking pop group, performed live for students at Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Greater Noida, on the occasion of its first management fest B’mahostav. More than 50 management institutes participated in various academic and non-academic events like JAM, Fashion Show, Drama, Singing and Dancing. The event was inaugurated by famous sand artist and brand ambassador of the fest Sudarshan Pattanaik. Prof Prithvi Yadav, director, was also present.

Loyola signs MoU with Association of Chartered Certified Accountants

Loyola College, Chennai and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) recently signed an MoU. This partnership will enable Loyola students to gain the ACCA Qualification. Another benefit of studying ACCA Qualification is that it is based on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) — the accounting standards which Indian businesses will be using in the near future. Rev G Joseph Antony Samy SJ, Principal, Loyola College, and Lucia Real Martin, Director, ACCA — Emerging Markets, were present during the signing. “ACCA is delighted to enable young people to gain the professional and academic qualifications they will need to succeed in a rapidly growing global market. Many young people who have gained the ACCA Qualification and membership have gone on to enjoy successful and rewarding careers,” said Lucia Real Martin.

XLRI celebrates 36th MAXI Fair

XLRI-Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, organised the 36th XLRI MAXI Fair, the annual Market and Consumer Behaviour Research Fair conducted by the School’s Marketing Association. The event was held on January 17 and 18. The highlight of the MAXI Fair 2015 was the ‘Banega Swachh India’ campaign with support of the hygiene product brand Dettol. They have also attempted to create a Guinness World Record for the largest hand washing relay. Guinness will confirm the record after eight weeks, claims XLRI. Prof Sharad Sarin, Professor of Marketing at XLRI, was present at the inauguration. A start up venture by XLRI students called Hobby in a Box was also launched. It is a one-stop solution for your do-it-yourself ideas. The Fair concluded with a live performance by Hindi poet and politician Kumar Vishwas.

Saranathan College hosts Maths competition

Department of Mathematics of Saranathan College of Engineering, Tiruchy, organised SMS’15, a district-level competition for Class XII students across various schools in and around Tiruchy on January 14. The event was inaugurated by A Krishnamoorthy, Dean, Humanities and Sciences Department. Around 100 students from over 18 schools participated in competitions like Mathematics Talent Search Exam, Dumb Charades and Pictionary. SM Girirajkumar, HoD, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Saranathan College of Engineering, delivered the valedictory address at the event. Winners received cash prizes worth `15,000. The prizes were distributed by A Revathy, Principal and SM Girirajkumar. A Ramesh Babu, HoD, MCA Department, was also present. A Mohan, HoD, Department of Mathematics proposed the vote of thanks.
