Take Risks but Calculated Ones

We should always ask this question before taking a decision. What  is the kind of risk involved in doing this? Adventurous people take the plunge; prepared to face the consequences despite high level of risk involved. Some weigh the pros and cons, evaluate the level of risk and take calculated risks. Research has proved that majority of people would not allow for any change, are afraid and succumb to fear. Some don’t even get married and don’t have children fearing failure.

We can be victims of distrust, unfaithful behaviour and cheating, but we can learn from previous experiences and experiences of others. This is the intelligence we possess and can use it to evaluate alternatives, and find out how we can control risks.

There are certain events in life of which we do not have any control over; we just have to let go of these. The possibility of preventing certain things from happening is the privilege that we have as humans — to use our intelligence effectively.

Certain people have a fetish towards new things; they are born with the DNA of taking risks. Despite several warnings from life experiences, they go ahead and take chances. But we should not misuse our freedom. Some tread carefully and play according to the demands of the situation. But our goal both personally and professionally should be to identify aspects that are controllable and uncontrollable. We should develop a strategic risk-taking approach rather than a carefree approach.kalpana@acl-india.in
