The Legacy, a Karnataka-based band is a crowd favourite because of the songs they play
It’s a common belief that once you enter engineering college, for the next four years, you have no social life! All you’re supposed to think of is academics, or at the least a weekly retreat to the nearest mall. Or maybe time to quickly watch a movie. Boring? Well, that isn’t completely true, especially if you take a look at students of Adichunchungiri Institute of Technology, Chikkamagaluru — whose band The Legacy proves the power of perseverance. They have worked their way up with determination and commitment, and have managed to win hearts.
This college band consists of six students — lead singers Archisman Choudhury, Saurabh Laik and Rachana Mandal, drummer Cletus Pais, keyboardist Vivek Praveen and Sanjan KS on guitars.
This band has won the VTU fest for two consecutive years and has composed many songs of their own. However they haven’t forgotten their patriotic values.
Their own version of Vande Mataram is a huge hit, along with their own theme song, which for want of a better name, is called The Legacy Theme.
When asked what their style is, Rachana tells us, “It is an Indo-Western band. The Legacy has performed in Reva Institute Of Technology and Management and at various fests including their own college fest Chunchuna. The band also performs covers of other songs. They performed Shakira’s Waka Waka during their college fest last year, to a lot of fanfare.
According to the band, their fans give them inspiration to keep moving forward. It is to please them and express themselves that they compose and perform the songs they do.
The band as a whole lets us know that they are deeply inspired by the singers that appear on the popular TV show Coke Studio and also love the songs of Euphoria’s Palash Sen.
So the next time you meet a person who says that engineers have no life, tell them about this band. That may just stop them because these students have shown that they definitely have potential in things other than engineering.
