A Raja Declares Assets Worth Rs 1.77 Crore

Former Telecom Minister and prime accused in 2G scam, A Raja, seeking re-election to Lok Sabha from Nilgiris Constituency, has declared assets worth Rs 1.77 crore as against Rs 70 lakhs in 2009.

Raja, in his affidavit filed before the returning officer, has said he owns movable property worth Rs.1.45 crore.

He has shown present immovable assets as worth Rs.32.85 lakh.

The 50-year old DMK leader has Rs.7,98,275 cash on hand and his wife M A Parameswari Rs.34,786.

Raja has listed 108 sovereigns of gold worth Rs 26.59 lakh among his movable properties and his wife 175 sovereigns worth Rs.43.08 lakh.

He has bank deposits of Rs 64.79 lakh while his wife has a fixed deposit of Rs.five lakh in a Chennai bank.

Raja also has shares valued at Rs.22.09 lakh and his wife Rs.6.07 lakh worth shares.

The DMK candidate has Rs 35.51 lakh liabilities and his wife Rs.3.92 lakh. He has a pending income tax assessment of Rs.25.52 lakh. In 2009, he had a liability of only Rs.1.66 lakh payable to a bank in Tiruchirappalli.

Raja has declared that a criminal case filed against him in connection with the 2G scam is pending before a special court in Delhi.
