Mayawati Demands Action Against BJP for Manifesto

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati Monday demanded that the Election Commission take action against the BJP for releasing its manifesto on the day of the first phase of Lok Sabha election.

Addressing a rally at Sultanpuri in outer Delhi, which falls under North West (Reserved) constituency, she said: "The BJP considers itself above law and the constitution...They also violate the Representation of the People Act by releasing their manifesto on polling day...The Election Commission should take stern action in the matter."

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister termed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) manifesto a "chhalawa" or fraud on the people, saying the party was "selling dreams" to common people just like the Congress did.

"If even 50 percent of what these two parties had promised to the people was implemented, the problems of poverty, inflation, corruption and unemployment could have been solved," she said.

The BJP's reliability is questionable and its present leadership has a "divisive image", said the BSP supremo.
