GUWAHATI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said the NDA would not allow the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) to change Assam's demography.

Addressing a rally in the election-bound state's Barpeta, Adityanath alleged that the two Opposition parties had played with Assam's culture.

"The Congress and the AIUDF tried to change Assam's demography by allowing infiltrators to come here. The infiltrators committed a robbery on your rights. They tried to capture the rations, houses and lands of the people of Assam," the UP Chief Minister alleged.

He added that efforts were being made to identify each and every infiltrator and drive them out.

"The NDA's resolve is to not allow Assam to become the land of love jihad and land jihad. We will not allow the Congress-AIUDF conspiracy to alter Assam's demography to succeed," Adityanath said.

In this regard, he spoke about the performance of the double-engine government in Uttar Pradesh, citing that the state had been ridden of riots, curfews and mafias. He said the double-engine government was working on the development front at a high speed.

Adityanath pointed out that the Modi-led NDA government had conferred Bharat Ratna on legendary singer-musician Bhupen Hazarika and Assam's first Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi. He said the NDA also took steps to promote India's culture and tradition, and ensured security and good governance, giving the benefits of various schemes to people without any bias.

"The Congress in 60 years had encouraged unrest, riots, curfews and infiltration. The Congress did not ever care about conserving the rhinos of Kaziranga National Park or boosting Assam's connectivity," he alleged.

From the tea hub to the chips hub

He said Assam had been globally famous for its tea and now, with Modi's inspiration, it was becoming a hub of chips (semiconductor). A semiconductor plant is coming up in the state's Jagiroad.

"It is under the PM Modi-led double-engine government that the states in the Northeast got excellent road, rail, air and inland waterway connectivity," Adityanath said.

He also said that only a BJP-NDA government could ensure a special package for the tea workers and help them progress.

He added that the Congress and the AIUDF could not do it, as they neither had a vision nor work capacity.
