BHUPALPALLY: The first Speaker of Telangana Assembly is in for an uphill climb if he wants to return to power in the upcoming polls. In spite of Sirikonda Madhusudana Chary’s tall claims of development initiatives in his constituency, on ground, the people remain dissatisfied with his performance. Notably, it is in the villages that the people feel an absence of his efforts while the towns report a more positive feedback.

For the 45-year-old farmer, V Rajender Reddy, of Nagaram village, voting for Chary in the last elections was a wrong decision. “He adopted our village but did not do much for it. I am highly disappointed with him. This time I am not going to repeat my mistake,” he said.

While the residents approve of TRS’ schemes and want to vote for the party, they do not want Chary as their leader. “He never visited our village in the past four and a half years. It is only in the last few months that he has been visiting us since the elections are here.

You can see for yourself the condition of our village and the facilities that are available here. We want to vote for TRS but we do not want him,” said Rangaiah of the same village. In fact, a large number of people in the village echoed the same sentiments and think that the Congress candidate Gandra Venkatramana Reddy should be given a chance.

Meanwhile, Raju, an auto driver, in Bhupalpally town is happy with Chary. “Today roads are much better than they were in the past. There are many more street lights in the town,” he said.In a freewheeling chat with Express, the former speaker and TRS’ Bhupalpally candidate Sirikonda Madhusudana Chary, said the amount of development work he took up in the last four years will definitely help him win again. Today, due to my initiatives the people are getting all the facilities. Hence, I am confident that people would vote for me,” said a confident Madhusudhana Chary.

How confident are you of victory?
I am getting tremendous response from people. I think they want me to continue and further develop the constituency.

Are you worried about rebels?
Not at all. See people are with me so why should I worry about rebels or for that matter opposition candidates.

How you are going to tackle Singareni Collieries Company Limited voters?
Though TRS backed union lost in Bhupalpally, it does not mean that they will not vote for me. Union elections are different from Assembly elections. There are over 20,000 votes with SCCL. I am expecting majority of them for me.

What you will be doing for the constituency if voted again?
My priority would be to provide better health, education and drinking water facilities. Providing employment for youth is also an priority.
