WARANGAL: To motivate people to exercise their vote in the upcoming State Assembly polls scheduled to be held on December 7, Warangal rural district administration and The New Indian Express Group organised a ‘Walkathon- Walk for Vote’ at Narsampet town on Tuesday.  The initiative got an overwhelming response from locals, students with over 1,000 people taking part in the event.

The Walkathon began from R&B Guest House junction and ended at  Khanapur crossroad. Warangal rural collector M Haritha,   joint collector Mahender Reddy,   RDO Ravi,  ACP Sunitha Mohan,  district forest officer Purushotham, students, eminent citizens and young voters took part in the Walkathon carrying banners and placards.  Students took a pledge to vote on Dec 7.

Speaking on the occasion district collector Haritha highlighted the importance of the power of vote and voters. Expressing concern over low percentage of voting in Narsampet and Parkal towns, the collector said it has been noticed that these towns have been witnessing low percentage of voter turnout in the past.

“Though voting percentage in rural areas was good, their urban counterparts are not turning out in large numbers for voting. We have to change this trend and make people vote in the upcoming polls,” she said.
District forest officer Purushotam stated that the walk was organised to create awareness among citizens on right to vote. He said that everyone should educate others about the importance of vote.
