The Election Commission on Friday ordered a repoll in 15 polling stations across two Assembly constituencies in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, following reports of electoral malpractices.

The repoll will be held on May 2 between 7 am and 6 pm

Of the 15 booths, 11 are in Magrahat Paschim and four in Diamond Harbour constituencies. Polling in these segments was conducted during the second phase of the State Assembly elections on April 29.

The Commission said the decision was based on reports from returning officers and observers, along with “material circumstances” that warranted fresh polling.

The BJP had alleged widespread irregularities in certain booths under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, represented by TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

The EC had deputed its special observer, Subrata Gupta, to verify the allegations on the ground.
