Her wide and cheerful smile is the first thing that hits you when you meet her. But it’s not just her attractive looks, but also a stellar performance in Veppam that backs actor Bindu Madhavi. Though she started off with films in Telugu, she’s eager to make it big in Tamil and has signed on two more films that have already hit the floors.

Playing a sex worker in the Anjana-directed Veppam, Bindu has pulled off her role with aplomb. “My first shot was a love scene. Getting the body language of the character and the way she wore her sari wasn’t easy. I took time to get used to it,” laughs Bindu. But she thanks Anjana for it all. “She saw me in a Telugu film song on You Tube and called me for the role.”

After dabbling in around five Telugu films, Bindu is eager to get it right in Tamil. And she’s been quick on that front it seems. “I am doing Kazhagu, directed by debutant Siva, opposite Vishnuvardhan’s brother, Krishna. I play a tea estate worker and we shot a lot in Munnar.” Her other film is with Nakul, directed by Eeram fame Arivazhagan, and is based on basket ball game.

How did a Hyderabad born, BTech student from the Vellore Institute of Technology become a model and an actor? “I always had a dream to see myself on screen. My dad didn’t talk to me for six months when he came to know my plans. But I made my portfolio and took up a paying guest accommodation in Chennai and did some ads. One such ad was spotted and I got a call from the director of Avakkai Biriyani. Initially I thought I would get a break in Tamil, but Telugu films happened first. But now I’m back in Chennai and greedy. I want to make it big here,” she explains.

A big fan of Ajith on whom she has a crush, and an admirer of Suriya’s winsome smile, Bindu is waiting patiently for her Tamil career to take off. She is also busy in Andhra, shooting with Veppam costar Nani again, for Pilla Zamindar directed by Ashok. Looking at her determination to give it her all and even put on some weight, as per the advice she’s been receiving, Bindu Madhavi sure seems ready to soar.
