Promising to be different

City Express catches up with cast and crew of Daha Balunga on the sets just before they leave for Thailand!
Promising to be different

It was a colourful and electrifying atmosphere on the sets of Daha Balunga as director cum  choreographer Sudhakar Vasanth was busy making the lead pair Babushaan and Sonia dance to the tunes of a peppy number with a group of young boys and girls and lots of balloons in the air! The song sweet 16 comes in the film after Babushaan sets eyes on Sonia for the first time.

The bilingual film in Odia and Bengali has been in limelight ever since leading Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff gave a nod to play the role of Sonia’s father in the film. Being majorly shot in Mumbai and Thailand, the film has only a few scenes and songs that have been shot here, informed Pupinder Singh, one of the producers for the film. A high budget venture, Daha Balunga will also see Sonia, an aspiring actress from Mumbai making her debut in Ollywood.

‘’I am very happy with my debut. It is a wonderful team. I play the role of a pampered girl belonging to a rich family. Although I am a simple girl when I am with my dad, I transform into an ultra modern girl when I come out of home,’’ Sonia said. She is also excited about making a debut in Bollywood very soon.

The film with an original storyline will also see Babushaan in a new avtaar. ‘’This is one of the best films I have signed so far. You will not see me as the regular chocolate boy. I have a different get-up and the character in this film. But I do not want to reveal much now,’’ the actor explained.

The film which will be released during Raja in Odisha, is being distributed all over the country by Rajshree Productions. Stating the objective of planning the film in both Bengali and Odia, Pupinder said they wanted to explore two different territories for business purpose.

The film is being jointly produced by him and Bapi Panda. The story is by Bapu Goswami and music by Abhijit Majumdaar.

Interestingly, the film will also have two real life couples, Uttam Mohanty, Aparajita and Bijay Mohanty and Tandra Ray coming together. This apart, the film will also witness father-son pair of K.V. Ramanna, who has the experience of working as a cameraman in Bollywood and South and Ramesh, working together on the camera. ‘’The film is digital as it is but the Odia audiences will surely see some new experiments in terms of picture quality,’’ asserted Ramanna.

Relaxing after the shot, director Sudhakar said he was looking forward to enter into the Bengal industry for the first time. ‘’Of course, Jaggu dada has made the film special for all of us. And, yes this isn’t a remake,’’ he said jokingly. The movie is a suspense thriller and will be very entertaining with a lot of action and drama. For the first time, we will be shooting three songs in Thailand. And, yes this time Sudhakar will not appear in the title track but another number,’’ he added.

‘’This will also be a film that will be dubbed in other languages like Tamil,Telugu and many more. It couldn’t have gotten better,’’ the director concluded as he shouted pack up for the day!
