Playback singer SPB to be honoured at IFFI 2016

The veteran artist has been in the film industry for the past five decades, rendering more than 40000 songs till date, the Union minister stated.

CHENNAI: Chennai-based veteran playback singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam will be honoured at the 47th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Minister of Information and Broadcasting, M. Venkaiah Naidu made this announcement in Delhi at a press conference on Tuesday. 

"He has been working in the film industry for the past five decades, besides rendering more than 40,000 songs till date,” an official statement from Venkaiah Naidu said.  

“He is a big name in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and also in Hindi. He has a melodious voice and hard-working nature,” the statement added.

A recipient of other several civilian honours from the Indian government, including — Padmashri, six National Awards and Padma Bhushan, he also holds a holds a Guinness World Record for recording the maximum number of songs. 

Apart from singing, Balasubrahmanyam, a dubbing artist, has also composed music and acted in several films.
