Hyderabad-based fashion designer Anand Kabra enjoyed laurels last Saturday, when he visited the capital to receive the ‘Best Designer — Indian wear under 10 years’ category at the Marie Claire Fashion Awards 2011. In his winning, he shared the podium with other eminent awardees. The Marie Claire Fashion Awards returned for the fourth time this year, and the winners for 2011 were announced at a function on December 17.

Special guests from Bollywood and society included Sonam Kapoor, Shahana Goswami, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, AD Singh, Sangita Bijlani and Purab Kohli.

Every year, the winners are shortlisted and judged by an eminent advisory panel and a jury that has representation from various segments of the fashion industry. The advisory panel has sifted through the works of all designers who participated in the six different fashion weeks across the country in 2011. A list of nominees was then drawn up for each of the 18 categories. The jury analysed the collections of each nominee to vote for the best in the specific categories.

While the main award categories include Best Indian wear designer, Best Western wear Designer, Fashion Label with Best Retail Vision and New- Age Fashion Photographer of the Year, there are four special Editor’s Choice categories this year - Best Revival in Indian Arts and Crafts, Fashion Icon of the Year, Ambassador of Indian Fashion, and Lifetime Achievement in the field of fashion.
