SHE did only one film with Feroz Khan. But Sridevi cherishes her 10-minute role in ‘ Jaanbaaz. ’ “I’m glad people still remember me in that small role. It’s all because of the way Feroz Khan presented me in the film that I made an impact in ‘Janbaaz .’ And what an impact that was!” says Sridevi.
Arguably the only guest appearance in her entire career, ‘ Jaanbaaz ’ featured Sridevi in the song ‘ Har kisiki nahin milta yahan pyar .’ The sizzling siren set the screen ablaze in an orange chiffon sari.
Recalls Sridevi, “At first I was hesitant because it was just a guest appearance. The presentation seemed a little too sensuous for my personality.
But when Khan spoke to me in my mother tongue I was convinced.” She says after a pause, “Yes, I was as surprised as you are. But he spoke fluent Tamil. He was a very classy gentleman and his cinema reflected that. I was very proud to be in ‘Jaanbaaz.’ The role proved that it’s not the length of the role that matters but the importance of the role that makes all the difference.” It’s sad we’ve lost an actor and film maker who defined style and sophistication in our films, she says. “Where are filmmakers like him in the industry today?” Is that why she isn’t coming back to B-town? “Whatever I do has to enthuse me and my audience.
I can’t just jump into it for the sake of acting. I am finding it increasingly difficult to find the right vehicle to stage a comeback.”
