Up Close with Soha Ali Khan

How exactly do you fit into an action-packed film like Ghayal Once Again?

I play a psychiatrist who is treating Ajay Mehra (played by Sunny Deol). It’s a very meaty role and I had a good time shooting for it. It’s an intense, action-packed film, a genuine sequel to the first Ghayal (1990), which I loved. And it’s a privilege to be directed by Sunny sir.

Will we see you doing some action in the film too?

I am involved in some action sequences but I’m not doing stunts. However, for one scene, I do get to be the hero, as Sunny sir calls it. It was an intense action scene and I got bruised while shooting it. I was shivering and was on the bed the day after the sequence was shot. This is one of the most challenging roles I have done and I am looking forward to it.

How is Sunny Deol as a co-star and director?

He is too sweet! He is like a child — very innocent. He is completely the opposite of his on-screen image. When he has to explain a scene, he does it so well that you don’t have to ask him again. (He is) a very genuine co-star. I would love to work with him again.

After your marriage (to Kunal Khemu in early 2015), we don’t see you much on screen.

Last year, I did just 31st October. Now Ghayal Once Again is being released. I am doing films but I wanted to be part of interesting films so the numbers don’t matter to me; they never did.

When will we see you working with your husband Kunal Khemu?

We have already done two films together. It would be fun to work with him again. We would also get a chance to spend some time together. But the script should be special; and we haven’t got the special script yet.

What about working with your mother Sharmila Tagore?

I don’t know; the script has to excite both maa and me. Currently, both of us are in a happy space.

Has anything changed after marriage?

No. We go on dates, don’t take each other for granted, but yes, we are more comfortable now.

How is Kunal Khemmu as a husband?

Kunal cooks lovely food and he loves eating too. So he likes us to eat together. He is very supportive; he is willing to help me in the household work.
