KOLKATA: Police today arrested Joy Mukherjee on charges assaulting his girlfriend and actress Sayantika Banerjee while she was returning home at her Southern Avenue residence in south Kolkata, police investigating the alleged crime said.
Police also seized the car of the male actor and took him to the Alipore court today for judicial process under IPC act 279(Rashdriving), 341( Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt).
The arrest was made after the actress lodged a complaint with the Tollygunge police station.
The alleged crime happened last evening when the actress was returning home.
Police investigating the crime said both actors had been in a relationship for a long time.
But of late the actress started distancing her from the actor, which became the apple of discord.
Police arrested the actor last evening on charges of assault, wrongful detention, attack on a person in the public.
The actor allegedly stopped the car of the actress by his vehicle and manhandled the driver and the actress.
